Effective communication is key to successful involvement in ITF work especially international solidarity. How can ITF unions be more engaged with ITF calls for solidarity, in particular women and youth?

HOW TO FOLLOW HIV/AIDS WORK

First is to sensitize the employers so that they can stop stigmatizing and discriminating those who are living with HIV and prove to them that these workers can be productive. Also our members should be educated on the importance of knowing their status and reduce stigma and encourage them to use drugs and prevention measures.

How to follow up extensive ITF work on HIV/AIDS

It is necessary that every ITF affiliate sees the importance of sensitizing their members on the issue of HIV/AIDS and fight stigmatization. There are so many members who are battling this epidemic and to worsen their case, they are stigmatized and deprived of their fundamental human right. Use this medium to shun stigmatization of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). We are the voice of the oppressed in our various locations/unions, It is our responsibility to rise up and defend our defenseless, People living positive with the virus can still live a normal life, all they need from us is show them love. Solidarity forever!!!

Effective Communication

One thing I know for sure is that in Unionism, any leader or comrade who has put himself or herself in the line of duty is even ever ready to make any sacrifices provided information on any action or inaction reaches him or her in due time. And this is where effective communication comes to play.

Effective communication entails using clear and concise language to reach out to members in a timely manner through any means expedient of the communicator.

Without good communication, even management of any organization would read different meaning to what you and the union is trying to portray. And the resultant effect is distraction and lack of focus, unnecessary loss of manhour or even loss of membership as a result of managerial blackmail and distrust.

But with good communication skills which of course is gained through adequate trainings, everyone would succinctly understand you squarely and timely, and adhere or react accordingly too.

It is therefore quite imperative to communicate effectively to all members in a timely manner concerning any event or activity that may require immediate action to deal with.

Stone Age Communication Policies

Policies has effect on communication and access to information, the union apart from the Government policies, organisational policies, as it affect the Unions and their peculiarities, should be reviewed,we have policies of fifty years that are yet to be reviewed,you may not have centeral power in all cases, like husband and wife, mama Junior must take permission from her husband before paying Juniors school fees,is it because the money is coming from the man or the woman is a professional house wife, or that was agreed in their marriage vows that mama junior must not do anything without the husbands approval,so daddy has travled and is time to pay Juniors school fees,whether the man killed the snake or the woman killed the snake, the most important thing is that the snake is killed that is the objective. When it comes to the captains of Industries all animal are not equal, some are more equal than other, even if you dont have nagotiation skills youre are in charge by merit or default,we have to improve on our skills ,gone are those days of confrontations animals with two legs are enemies, while animals with four legs are friends,is either we are digit or annalog, review your stone age policies, because a grown up man do not take permmition to use the rest room unless he is a stranger in that place.seek opinion if it is a national issues. thanks best of luck.

EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

Effective communication is the key to a strong union and members should be educated on how to effectively communicate. More union leaders and shop-stewards should be trained on how to communicate through the social media so that information can reach others on time for solidarity. ITF should improve on this and educate more communicators so that the flow of information is adequate and reaches to all members on time.

Educate all union members for effective communication

Communication is as old as the dawn of time. A successful and strong union is reliant on excellent communication and ITF has taken a bold step to train communicators. Therefore ITF needs to advice union leaders to support the already trained communicators in order to train others so that all ITF unions can be more engaged with ITF calls for solidarity. Educating all employees and members of unions has to be a top priority to achieve this.

Promote effective communication among the ITF women/youth

ITF Unions should encourage strong participation of women and youths in union activities, youths and women should be enlightened and educated on how to communicate effectively using existing communication tools, this will enhance building stronger unions because they are the strength of the unions. Women and youth participation in union activities as well as effective communication is very essential to growth in ITF unions.

To build strong transport

To build strong transport networks across Africa will require us to develop our communication and organising skills. The African ITF & Harvard Trade Union Programme will be working with the ITF African Women leaders to identiy and develop our individual and collective skills to strenghen our unions.
